When we first met Wolfwood last year, the adoption page was very difficult for the staff to manage, as it was a sprawling series of rows, columns, photos, and text boxes. Each time a dog became available or was adopted, someone had to go in and update the page design. This meant it was difficult to keep it updated, as the staff are busy looking after the dogs and doing their important work.
We replaced this with a custom post system, where each dog is added to the back-end of the website using three simple fields – name, description and image. The staff can then set the availability of each dog, either available, reserved, or adopted. The adoption page then dynamically displays and available and reserved dogs, so it automatically updates each time the staff change the status of a dog, or add/remove one.
Redesigning a website isn’t just about a cosmetic overhaul; it’s a chance to sit down and talk through any issues that staff or customers experience when using the website, and then start with a blank canvas to devise a solution that solves the issues.
