Our solution was to create custom post types for dogs, wildlife and news articles, each of which has pre-defined fields that the staff member fills in. These posts then populate a dynamic grid within each section of the website, so for example on the Dogs for Adoption page, all dogs are arranged in a neat, mobile-responsive grid, with the newest arrivals first.
Each post has a custom field assigned, which gives the option of being marked as available, reserved, or homed, so staff can manage the status of each dog/wildlife in one click.
Custom post types can be used to manage any kind of grouped content in WordPress, and when combined with advanced custom fields (ACF), give a great deal of flexibility to design the best solution for both customers and back-end users.
In addition to the above work, we also completed a full security and plugin audit, along with some WordPress ‘good housekeeping’ tasks to speed up the website and resolve the browser errors that were frequently occurring.
