Avoid losing traffic and search ranking positions

Converting an EKM Powershop to WooCommerce is a specialist skill, which involves migrating customer data, product data, site content, design if applicable, payment gateways and most importantly, building a complex redirection map to avoid losing traffic and search ranking positions.

We recently had an enquiry for a large EKM website migration project, in excess of 2,000 products, which was a direct result of the EKM page we created when rebuilding the website.

The key lesson being – if you have a specialist service and you want to pick up leads and clients for it, you need to ensure it is on your website and optimised so that people can find it.

The most critical aspect of any EKM migration project is the redirect map. All website URLs will change, since EKM links end in .asp, which is a largely redundant programming language for public facing websites. Therefore, a map must be created for every page, product, category, offer code, and other indexed content, to eliminate 404 errors and avoid losing search ranking position. We have extensive experience of delivering this type of redirect map, which helps minimise any SEO impact. There can be some short term adjustments within Google and the major search providers, as whilst the content doesn’t change during the migration, they still have to re-index the pages and products by using a bot to scan them.
