Jenny and Raphael contacted BY Design as they have a WordPress website which contains a vast archive of material relating to the IBAR project. The site was running on PHP 7, meaning many of the crucial WordPress updates couldn’t run. The site displayed critical errors when they tried to run updates, and the theme contained outdated PHP code which needed rewriting to run on PHP 8.
We completed a full PHP upgrade for them, including the following:
- Completed a full backup of the existing website
- Created a clone of the site on a staging server
- Simulated the site in PHP 8 to identify the initial problems
- Carried out the required code changes
- Tested to ensure initial problems were resolved
- Ran the site in different versions of PHP 8 to ensure the site was fully functioning
- Migrated the repaired site back to the IBAR hosting
- Tested again in conjunction with the internal team
BY Design previously worked with Jenny on the Lancaster Beekeeping website, so it was great to reconnect and to receive this personal recommendation to a prestigious organisation such as UCLan.

Customer feedback:
“Prompt and professional service. Ben was incredibly helpful to us, solving a tricky technical problem at short notice. A great local web provider for Lancashire organisations. Thank you Ben!”
Please note, this site was not designed by BY Design and is not currently hosted by us. We were just commissioned to complete the above repair work.
