Established in 2003, we have been in business for over 20 years and supported hundreds of businesses with their website needs along the way.

Based in Heysham, we work with clients across the whole of the UK and worldwide; our closest client is in the office next door, our furthest away is in Western Australia. We specialise in website design, hosting, maintenance and management for small to medium-sized businesses.
Having spent 21 years building and developing websites, from the very early days of business websites, we have lived and breathed the rapid changes and technological advances that have occurred in this fast-paced sector.
We gain great satisfaction from the constantly changing nature of website work, and have recently been working with artificial intelligence for both content generation and to deploy ChatGPT chat bots to websites.
Customer satisfaction is the core value of our business, and we underpin all of our work with a solid consistency of product standard and service.
The web is always changing, but it has also reached a point where users have pre-set expectations in terms of both layout and functionality. We bring this vital knowledge and experience to every project, even if it means proposing an alternative to the client’s wishes.

Ben Yates
Director and Founder of BY Design
My creative path was set in early childhood when I first received some blank paper and crayons from my grandma. Several years and many thousands of dubious drawings later, I went to study Design & Art Direction at Manchester Metropolitan University (1999-2002). For my final major project, I built a directory website (self-taught) and hosted it on Freeserve; my first foray into the world of websites.
Following graduation, I gained experience working as a website designer and graphic designer in both the private (Safety Management UK) and public (Lancaster & Morecambe College) sectors. This gave me a broad understanding of design implementation across different markets, before establishing BY Design as a permanent fixture in the creative website marketplace.
Inspiration & Philosophy
I believe life is a rich tapestry and that we are constantly surrounded by good ideas, inspiring sights and creative thinking.
The challenge is filtering out the good from the average, and taking notice of the bad, so as not to waste time re-creating it.
In terms of inspirational creative figures, I greatly admire the design work of Peter Saville; my logo is a nod to his work on the Joy Division – Substance album cover which formed part of his extensive work for Factory Records and the late, great Tony Wilson, who did so much for the rebirth of Manchester and the wider areas of the Northwest.
On a more personal level, and in no particular order, the following people have also been a huge positive influence in my professional career.
